Gold Coast City - Dubai Chamber of Commerce was established following the success of a delegation visiting Dubai in 2004.
Whilst enjoying Sister City Civic relations particularly in the area of cultural and municipal officer exchange, little had been done by
previous Gold Coast City Councils to formalise and enhance the substantial economic opportunities between the two "Twins". Indeed,
during these discussions, it emerged the strength and value of Sister City status from an commerce development perspective was not fully
appreciated in a general Australian context.
At the encouragement of Dubai Chamber of Commerce, delegation member, Mr Ian Solomon, a Gold Coast businessman and at the time President of
Southport Chamber of Commerce and Industry, quickly set about to establish a special interest Chamber of Commerce commited to furthering
the potentials of two-way commercial relationships with Dubai.
Local media interest and support from Gold Coast City Council saw an initial meeting of interested businessmen take place in June 2004 where
a steering committee was formed. (see Our Executive Board Members).
It was resolved the Gold Coast City - Dubai Chamber would be a facilitator and introduction organ for business people from either City
interested in accessing a new market place.
